Dentist's Chair With X ray Picture

Technological advances in dental care have grown tremendously in recent years, allowing dentists to provide even higher quality care for their patients. New advances can help dentists to detect problems early and treat them safely and more effectively. These technologies also help patients feel more comfortable and confident at the dentist’s office. See how these technologies are improving dental care for patients:

Digital Imaging
X-rays are essential to dental care as they can alert dentists to the first signs of cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease. They can also show impacted teeth and other structural issues. X-rays utilize radiation, however, which can be harmful to the body. New digital imaging technologies, like the Panorex system used at Vacendak, allow dentists to obtain panoramic images with five times less radiation than traditional X-ray methods. This is safer and more convenient for patients.

Diode Laser
The diode laser kills bacteria in areas that traditional instruments are unable to reach, typically along the gum line. This means dentists and hygienists scrape fewer teeth during an appointment, sparing the patient from pain and discomfort.

Same-Day Crowns
Digital imaging technology now allows for same-day crowns. Instead of making multiple trips to the dentist’s office for a crown to be created and placed, a dentist uses a digital scanner to create a 3D image of the tooth. That image flows directly into an in-office milling machine that makes a fully customized ceramic crown. Instead of taking days to create a crown, this process can be completed in only a few hours.

3D-Printed Dentures
Just about anything can be 3D-printed these days, including dentures! To create 3D-printed dentures, digital imaging takes a picture of the teeth. Using advanced software, customized dentures are designed and crafted with a hard resin. 3D-printed dentures look natural and feel like conventional dentures. Plus, a new pair can be created quickly from your saved digital image if they break or get damaged.

Smart Toothbrushes
Dental technologies are not just for the dentist’s office; they can also be used at home. New smart electric toothbrushes do more than provide a deep clean; they offer real-time feedback on your brushing technique. They can identify areas where you may be brushing too hard or not hard enough and track your brushing duration and coverage.
